Your Dreams Are Closer Than You Think (And Here’s How I Know)
I can remember, very distinctly, a conversation my husband Faiz and I were having almost four years ago, discussing our plans for the business. We were talking about who it would be cool to collaborate with. On my list was, of course, Oprah (who doesn’t have her on their list, right?), along with a few other must-haves like Mindvalley – an online development company that creates transformational content, now one of the leading online institutions for all-ages education. At that point, Faiz mentioned how he thought Mindvalley would “love to partner with me” – something that a very supportive husband like him would say! I told him that might seem more realistic after five years or so when I’m more established…
Fast forward one month later, I receive a call from them!
They wanted me to become a coach for their newly launched company called Evercoach and create my very own program for their website. You can only imagine how excited I was - something that I thought would happen far into the future was happening now!
This is why I always say “dream big” because you never know how close those dreams are to coming true. I never would have thought my business would reach this level so soon but, of course, my dreams have been big since day one.
Something that you once thought would take years, can materialize quickly when you're clear on your mission and vision. It is all about getting into the right state of mind and never forgetting that dreams can come true.
Try just a few of my tips below to get into the right state of mind. Who knows, maybe your dream collaboration will be just one call away.
There really is no limit to what you set your mind to, and it is so important to have your career goals in plain sight. Think about where you would like to see your business after one month, one year, five years and plan accordingly. Sometimes when we say these things out loud or write them down, it's much easier to be dedicated to them and make them come true.
But I guess that's the catch in this situation: dreams are free, but you can't just sit there and do nothing and expect them to happen. You need to put in the time, attention and energy as well. My advice - start by surrounding yourself with positive, uplifting people who think BIG too.
Visualise where you want to be
Even though I would regularly play the ’collaborate game’ with Faiz, I could never imagine that any of the options I had in mind would come true. Whenever I would think about people I wanted to work with, I would always make up excuses. That’s why I think it's important to visualize the type of people you want collaborate or work with in the future - it helps you work towards making those dreams an actual reality.
I never really gave myself the credit I deserved for all the hard work I had put into my business thus far. So when the idea presented itself to me, I was initially very shocked. Honestly, I didn’t think it would happen within one year, let alone just one month. But it's important to celebrate the successes you experience along the way, and I often look back at this story and smile as it's just a good example of how things can happen quickly when your open to opportunities and put yourself in situations where you can meet the "right" type of people.
One of my clients at the time had a similar experience. She was asked to be the keynote speaker at a prestigious business event in Australia. She used to say that her dream was to speak at that event in maybe five years, if that. But it wasn’t happening in five years, it was happening that year due to her consistently sharing her story and networking with the organisers of the event.
Put in the extra work
If you put in the same amount of work as everyone else, you will always be at their level. There is nothing that you cannot achieve in this world, and I truly believe that it all comes down to your level of dedication. If you show up for yourself, the universe will show up for you, too.
Remember to make the most of the tools you have at your disposal. There are so many excuses you can make to yourself and others about why you are not at the same level as somebody else, but the truth is, your best is good enough. If you never try, you never really know.
And that’s exactly why business goals are so important; they give you something tangible to work towards. You are more likely to make a commitment to something if you can see the end goal, and at the same time, you are more likely to stick with it for the long haul.
If you are showing up, being visible and doing everything you know to have a thriving coaching business, people will start to notice. And this gets the ball rolling and sets everything in motion. Just make sure that you are doing all you can to make it happen. It all starts with you and your level of dedication.
With the huge rise in social media over the last few years, now is the best time to launch your career and business online. It would be foolish not to take advantage of everything that this social media craze has to offer you and your future business: more exposure, potential clients from around the world, and education at the click of your fingers.
Think of your relationship between you and your audience just like a real friendship; you check in to tell them about new things, where you are, and about new and exciting business updates that are just around the corner or in the works.
I want you to know that your dreams don’t have to just remain dreams. Only you have the power to work hard at what you know, and put in both the time and effort to make your goals and dreams a reality. Motivation can only get you so far, and I would love to see more women doing what they love and working for themselves in an industry like this.
